ETHOS
The word ETHOS means “the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, community, or institution”. In other words, your ETHOS is the practices you do each and every day or the way you “do life”. Under the guidance and direction of Pastor Randy, we have developed a University Style discipleship program for adults on Wednesday nights called ETHOS. These classes are designed to accomplish one goal, to have the ETHOS of our members be the same ETHOS of Christ.
The following is a brief description of what each ETHOS class is comprised of during this current discipleship tract. Although some classes are larger than others and have been "closed" due to space constraints, any class will be available to visit on any given Wednesday night.
ETHOS 101:
Pastor Randy BaileyThis class is designed to explore the spiritual disciplines that Jesus lived and taught and that were then carried out by the early disciples. In this six week study, you will learn how to delve into God’s Word, the importance of a fervent prayer life, the practice of remembering, sharing your faith, and other vital characteristics of a devoted follower of Christ Jesus our Lord.
ETHOS 102, Servant Leadership:
James WiebeIn our culture of take-charge leaders, “servant leadership” sounds like an oxymoron on the same level as “efficient government.” This 13-week study, created with a blend of master-teacher format and small-group breakouts, will transform your thinking about what true leadership, modeled by Jesus, really looks like. You’ll be encouraged not only to understand Jesus' style of leadership, but to apply what you learn in practical projects, and embrace life change goals for yourself. Even if you don’t see yourself as a leader, this study will expand your vision as your group develops ways of caring for each other and spurring one another on to the deeper things of God.
ETHOS 103, Contagious Community:
Matthew PoeSo many of us make our way through the early years of life creating lasting memories with our friends and family, we are all familiar with this season of the journey. As marriage, family, career, responsibilities, obligations, and routines fight for center stage, authentic and lasting community gets squeezed out of the picture. While it is true that God has created us for community, the reality is, it can be very difficult to know what that looks like, how it feels, and how to begin to build it. The goal of this study is to provide you with the depth and direction to move you beyond reality and into an abundant life lived out with one another.
ETHOS 104, Study of I & II Thessalonians:
Dave Dryden, SeniorOur world lives with constant fear of the unknown and makes decisions as if there is no life beyond tomorrow. People lack hope for their lives now and for their eternity. This study, focused on the return of King Jesus, will shine a bright beacon of hope and purpose into your life. You’ll learn how to live your life in light of Jesus' second coming, apply what you learn in practical projects, and embrace life changing goals for yourself. Anticipating the King's return should affect all of life, our priorities, the way we think and live, relationships, responses to leaders, how we handle trials, standing firm, and our preparations for eternity. Stay awake, stay alert, and watch!
ETHOS 105, Financial Peace University:
Darryl ThrasherDebt is all around us. It is in the church, too. More than 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Over 35% of Christian marriages end in divorce and money problems are the number one cause. Financial Peace University has a long history of helping families successfully confront these problems, head on. The program is a Biblically based accountability curriculum that will teach you to manage God's money and resources in a godly way. It empowers you to make the right financial decisions to achieve your financial goals, teaching you to eliminate debt, build wealth, and give like never before. On average, families reduce their debt by $5,300 and save $2,700 in just 91 days.
